The end of this year sees the conclusion of a period of transition at the Wood Protection Association. After over 4 successful years as Director, Gordon Ewbank will be stepping back into an advisory role as from 1 January 2023.
We would like to say a huge thank you for all the valuable work Gordon has done over that time.

The WPA Management Team
In his place, the work of the association’s management team will be coordinated by Neil Ryan (Policy & External Affairs) and Janet Sycamore (Marketing & Member Services).
Both Neil and Janet have many years of technical and commercial experience at senior level in the wood protection sector and both have been part of the WPA management team for some time.
Management Roles
Neil Ryan has been working alongside Gordon Ewbank during 2022 on industry matters and, in particular, working relationships with key partners such as Timber Development UK, with whom WPA is affiliated. Most notably, Neil has been responsible for oversight of the WPA Benchmark quality scheme, a key element of the TDUK action plan on wood treatments. He also chairs the association Technical & Regulatory Affairs Committee.
Gordon will continue to oversee association activity in the area of fire protection, at least for the foreseeable future, whilst Steve Young continues as Chairman and Dr Chris Coggins continues in his role overseeing Quality & Standards.
WPA is the lead body for the timber sector on all matters relating to wood protection and enhancement, whether it be wood preservation, flame retardants or modified wood.
The experience and expertise embodied within the WPA and its team on these issues is second to none and, in that respect, this transition leaves the association, its members and its industry partners in good hands.
