Wood Protection Association
2020 Awards event
NEW Venue: On-line
NEW Date: 15th October 2020, 1pm
The Awards event is kindly sponsored by Impra, Koppers, Lonza Wood Protection and Wolman BASF.
To ensure the safety of all participants we are now holding this event in a virtual space. We sincerely hope everyone who had originally booked their place at the awards will be able to join us on-line for this enjoyable event.
Now in their sixth year, the Awards have become a popular annual event which showcases wood protection technology as a relevant and vital part of the timber industry.
We were all ready in anticipation of the original event due to be staged back in early April when the lockdown struck. Although we initially rescheduled it for later in October, this now seems an unrealistic prospect.
WPA chief executive and virtual awards host, Gordon Ewbank commented:
"Staging the 2020 Awards as an online event means that our industry, in spite of COVID-19, can still gather together safely to recognise and reward excellence."
The event will be staged in a 30 to 40 minute easily accessible Zoom programme which includes a review of the shortlisted nominations in each category – submissions already received.
The winners will be announced live.
Entertainer Richard Pinner will still be making an appearance, raising the spirits with his unique brand of virtual magic before the awards are presented.
New and unique 2020 Award trophies
This year the winners will receive a unique award created from Abodo, a modified wood product from New Zealand now available in the UK. We would like to say a huge thanks to Glenalmond Timber – WPA member and UK distributor of Abodo products, who very kindly produced the Awards for us.
The 2020 Award categories are:
Wood Protection Project of the Year - sponsored by Wolman BASF
This Award recognises the important role that wood protection technology plays in enhancing the durability or fire performance of wood used in a construction, engineering or landscaping application. Projects of any size in the UK or further afield must demonstrate how factory applied pre-treatments allow designers to confidently select wood as a sustainable, low environmental impact, material of choice.
Treated Wood Trader of the Year - sponsored by Impra
This Award appreciates customer service best practice. Applicants should focus on what differentiates their business from other suppliers and how this helps them build and retain customer loyalty as a key part of their business success. Customer testimonials can be taken into account during the judging process.
Quality Excellence - sponsored by Lonza
This Award is aimed at businesses producing wood or wood-based materials in accordance with the requirements and standards of the WPA Benchmark quality assurance scheme for preservative or flame retardant treatments. The winner will demonstrate a higher than average level of quality, above and beyond the remits of the schemes.
Innovation - sponsored by Accsys
This Award celebrates new ideas, new products and more effective ways of doing things that add value to the customer experience. Examples include the adoption of new business models; improving services or developing improved products that better meet customer needs. Such innovations that help a business adapt to changing standards of performance, regulatory requirements or marketplace opportunities.
Outstanding Contribution - sponsored by WPA
This Award puts a spotlight on the unsung heroes of the wood protection industry. The people who go above and beyond for the success of a business and the satisfaction of its customers. A typical nominee could be involved in treatment plant operation, technical support, sales, marketing or customer services. Whatever their role they are recognised by their employer, co-workers and customers as making an outstanding contribution.
